$93,000 For Manawa Fire Dept Grant to Upgrade Equipment

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) The Manawa Rural Fire Department has received a $93,971 grant from the Homeland Security Department, Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. announced today.

The grant will be used to purchase a vehicle exhaust system for the fire house and a portable air compressor for refilling air tanks firefighters use for breathing in smoky environments.

“This allows us fill our breathing bottles on scene – it keeps us with air on scene at all times,” said department First Captain Rob Fortenau. Previously, firefighters had to return to the headquarters to refill their air tanks.

The grant was made under the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.
